Frequently Asked Questions
For Metal Building Contractors
General lnformation
Certainly. All of our manufacturers are members of the Metal Building Manufacturers Assoc. as well as IAS accredited. You need to make sure any contractor you talk to can also provide this incredibly important accreditation also. It is the difference between a legitimate manufacturer and a possible fly by night operation.
Absolutely not. We are a general contractor that focuses on metal building projects. Our employees physically build our buildings so we have to have a steady diet of projects to feed them. We have supplied various phases of construction projects from just the metal building installed to turn key general contracting. Don’t hesitate to ask us if we can help you too.
Absolutely! We have a portfolio of completed projects and can provide references upon request. References are an important aspect of your search for a steel building contractor. Make sure you check up on them.
Yes, we offer pre-engineered building systems and can custom-designed them to meet your specific needs.
We have access to a number of metal building manufacturers that produce many different types of buildings including warehouses, garages, aircraft hangars, barns, and mini storage buildings.
Currently we try to stay within a 60 mile radius of Sioux Falls, SD. This is important for our employees to have a good work/life balance. Over the last decade that service area has kept us more than busy. We do entertain projects outside that radius but it is on a case by case basis.
Product Features
Yes, we very conscious of energy-efficiency standards and have numerous options to meet your needs, such as deep fiberglass insulation systems and insulated panels.
We offer various warranties depending on the materials and construction. Please contact us for specific warranty information. All of our panels have a manufacturers paint warranty. Our buildings are also covered by a 365 day craftsmanship warranty.
Almost certainly. All jurisdictions have different codes and as long as we know were your building will be located we can design it to meet any current code requirements. As a bonus our buildings always come with stamped engineered plans that are accepted at planning and zoning offices everywhere.
Our buildings are made from high-quality steel and metal alloys designed for durability and longevity, usually including recycled materials.
In most cases we would tell you it is because we have a better product. Even though there are some cases where a pole barn is a better fit, it doesn’t happen very often.
- Steel structures are price competitive with wood framed structures starting at about 50′ wide. The wider the building requirements the more cost effective a steel building is. This also pertains to heights of about 19′.
- Our manufacturers have to meet stringent accreditation requirements every year. This verifies that our buildings are made to the meet the codes we say they are. Not many pole barn manufacturers can say that.
- Our building can be deisgned to be extremely energy efficient. We have roof R-Values over 45 and wall R-Values over 29 without taking special precautions. We can go over these values with special considerations if needed. Pole barns fall short of this in the walls leaving them less efficient.
- All steel buildings can meet demanding design requirements. We can build wider and taller than pole barns.
- Our steel sheeting is usally stronger than pole barn sheeting. Our standard wall panels are 26 ga steel and pole barns are typically 29 guage. (These number are like golf, the lower the better) Our attachment systems are also stronger to help prevent storm damage that pole barns are much more susceptible to.
- Lets be honest, steel just plain lasts longer. It doesn’t rot, it doesn’t crack, it doesn’t burn. It’s the same reason we don’t have wooden cars or wooden bulldozers, or wooden tanks.
- Insurance costs are typically lower for metal buidings than for pole barns. Typically metal buildings survive fires better than pole buildings and all steel building often fare better in severe storms.
Usage Instructions
Absolutely, we can work with you to create a custom layout that fits your needs. We offer clear span buildings with no interior columns that can span hundreds of feet or simple storage buildings that span 25 feet with interior columns. Steel Buildings are extremely versatile.
Metal buildings require minimal maintenance for decades. The largest issues are making sure to keep salt and snow melt off of the wall panels and making sure that the gutter systems remain unclogged.
Pricing and Availability
Unfortunately we can’t get you a building tomorrow. TL/DR: Typical delivery time frames can range for 10 to over 20 weeks from the order date.
In actuality all of our buildings are custom manufactured so each purlin and girt is specific to your exact project. With that highly customizable design it requires a process to ensure the product is created correctly. The typical steps are as follows:
- Confirm the requirements with the client
- Order the metal building from the manufacturer
- Weeks later a permit set of drawings is delivered. This helps expedite the process of obtaining a building permit. These drawings will contain an engineers stamp certifying that the building will meet the prevailing building codes.
- Weeks later we will receive a for construction set of drawings. This has been detailed by the manufacturer to ensure that all of the parts are able to be fabbed correctly. At this point the building is ‘sent to the shop’ and fabrication commences. No changes can be made after this phase.
- Again some weeks later the materials are made up and loaded on a delivery truck. This whole process can take anywhere from 10 weeks to over 20 weeks depending on the time of year and complexity of the building.
Yes, contact us with your project details. We will probably ask you a dozen questions to make sure we understand your specific use case. After we feel comfortable that we understand your requirements our team will start estimating the project. After that is done we will provide you with a very detailed listing of the product we will provide.
Costs are calculated based on the size, design, materials, and additional features such as insulation or custom finishes. It is nearly impossible to guess the cost of metal building so we are more than happy to work up a custom quotation for you specific needs.
Support Services
Yes, we provide professional installation services for all our metal buildings. Our employees are from here, not from another state or country. They live in the same communities that we service. It is important to us to have craftsman in the field that everyone can relate too and are held to a high standard. That doesn’t often happen with the lowest priced erector from who knows were.
Don’t freak out. This happens occasionally and it can be accommodated sometimes. Typically minor modifications can be made in the first few weeks after ordering. Adding a framed opening or changing it’s location would be an example. Changing the width of the building wouldn’t be considered a minor modification for instance. It certainly needs to happen before the final drawings are done. Once a project is ‘sent to the shop’ there is no changing it.
We offer after-sales support including maintenance tips and assistance with any concerns.
